Hi,
I have used JSInterface in my flex project to include javascirpt file.
It works well in IE but not in FF.
I have included JSInterface_v2.4.5_flex_lite.swc

here are my lines of code:

protected const java_script_file:String = "folder_name/javascipt.js"

protected functioncreationcompletehandler(event:Event):void{
JSInterface.loadJavaScript(java_script_file, this.javascirptloadcompletehandler); //it seems this line is not loading JS in FF
}

protected var $:Function;

protected function  javascirptloadcompletehandler(event:Object=null):void{
Alert.show('javascipt loaded'); //this line doesnot tun in firefox, but run in internet explorer
}

Please help me out.
Thanks

apologize for my typos I'm dyslectic and spell check can go so far in fixing my bad spelling. at some point i learned to live with it and not care what other people think about my spelling as long as they understand me. It was or to waist hours and hours on making something i don't care about perfected and make others happy or do what makes me happy and hope people can see beyond my spell check capabilities ;)

looking back its clear the flash player is at least in the near future not sellable i still stand behind my last post i think if it will not be flash it will be another super power as its just needed. we see now that AIr is trying to be that alternative but time will tell.

Great example! When I put this code into my application, it would compile with zero errors, but then the SWF would not render. Long story short: I figured out that because my dataProvider was not getting populated until later in the application, I had to test to see if the item object was null, and if so return the DefaultGridItemRenderer. My itemRendererFunction looks like the following:

private function contact_renderer(item:Object, column:GridColumn):ClassFactory
{
	if (item == null)
	{
		return new ClassFactory(DefaultGridItemRenderer);
	}else
	{
		if (item.DISABLE == 'YES')
		{
			return new ClassFactory(gray_out);
		}else
		{
			return new ClassFactory(DefaultGridItemRenderer);
		}
	}
}

Cheers!

Thanks Niall,

Having different display patterns and edit patterns is a point worth adding, I usually have a display format of DD/MM/YYYY and an edit format of D/M/YYYY, so the user does not have to type in any leading zeroes.

Radzmar has a good example of this on his blog, http://thelivecycle.blogspot.com.au/2011/10/date-patterns.html

Zazaam!!! Joel! It worked! I did not pursue this because I had Standard. Now 2 years later I have Adobe X Pro. Created a button, entered your action script, clicked on the field, selected a picture and there it appeared! Excellent! Now I can convert a 40 tab, 59 page Excel report template into a PDF fillable form with pictures inserted by the users. Thank you so very much for sharing this formula! Kikki7

Hi Mike.

LiveCycle Designer will automatically import the XML data file when performing a preview, But when using Acrobat you will have to manually import the XML file. This is slightly different depending on which version of Acrobat you are using but will be something like Tools ... Forms ... Manage Form Data ... Import. I have updated the sample zip file to include a PDF version with the data already imported and will try and follow that approach in any future cookbooks.

I was searching for a solution of exactly this problem and have found your article that helped me much.

But wouldn't it be much better, if you could prevent the user from typing text that is not in the list?

I placed this code in the change event of the dropdown (instead of the exit event):

//----------------------------------------------------
var newTxt = xfa.event.newText;
var match = false;
for (var i = 0; i < this.length; i++) {
	if (newTxt == this.getDisplayItem(i).substring(0, newTxt.length)) {
		match = true;
	}
}
if (match == false) {
	xfa.event.change = "";
}
//------------------------------------------------

So each change that results in a text that doesn't exist at the beginning of a list item, will be cancelled.

Beat

When I try to open it up in Acrobat Professional or Acrobat reader, the drop down box does appears but it is empty. I does not pull in the data from the XML file. Any help or suggestion you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Can I pass Array from jsx to sdk? I mean the real array, not a xml of string or other solution.

On the very bottom of the post, theres an example:

  var d:Document = new Document();
  d.hostObjectDelegate = jsxInterface.getDocumentFromJSX();

And it works great, but only for SDK-specific classes, because they have a 'hostObjectDelegate" property/function.

Array doesn't have one, so how can i get an array from JSX?

Nice post Bruce!

The date picker UI is not great and the ability to drill down through the months/years/etc is not known amongst users (that I have come across).

In the past I have used a single Display pattern, but multiple Edit patterns to deal with the user inputting a date to their preferred pattern.

Hi, I have the same issue as listed in that article, but it's not with a flex app, it's with a flash application.

I managed to load an iframe with flash but I don't seem to know how to close or unload it, I tried the unloadMovie function, but noticed that the iframe is not loaded exactly inside flash, flash just loads it above and outside the movie.

I've been trying to fix this for 5 days in a row with no success, even tried webforuns, but got no response...

most receipt printers will open the cash drawer anytime a print action occurs. So, you should only need to send a print job to that printer and the drawer should open. For some receipt printers that is not the default setting so you may need to adjust the setting through the printer settings on the pc

Hi Carson,

You should be able have the predicate binding work with two fields but it would be fairly clumsy and I have since found that if there is a large number of records (say over 600 or 700) or if there is complex condition it is better to work purely in JavaScript.

I have added a second form to this post which includes a region filter as well as the country name, which I hope helps.

Niall and Marco,

Thanks for the feedback.

Jono,

I like the idea of using the parent property as you don't need to know the name of the row or repeating subform.  But you still need to reference the instanceManagers count property to get the calculate event to fire again if a row was deleted, so we could use;

this.parent.instanceManager.count;
this.parent.index+1;

I'm not sure which would be better, could be a case by case thing. If your repeating row had more structure to it then it could be this.parent.parent.... (which I would avoid) or if there was other code refering to the instance manager via the _detail approach (I would stick with that pattern).

There has to be a better way to do this. There are just way too many moving parts - java, blazeds, spring, hibernate. I cannot image trying to update the libraries that are scattered all over the place.

I understand that for a CRUD app there has to be some server-side middle-ware such as cold fusion or java, but why so much?

All I want to do is build a quick flex front end that can query data that resides in an Oracle database.

I thought Flash Builder made data-centric application development simple, but for a novice it aint that easy. You gotta know how to hook up all of the middle-ware, so it isn't plug and play at all. It should be though. Basic HTML and .ASP isn't anything flashy, but it is pretty easy to develop in compared to all this flex, java, spring, hibernate, blazeds.

While I am on a rant I want to complain about a few more things. ASP.NET sucks because it isn't open source, so how can I learn how to create something like a SOAP service (wsdl). I am not going to buy Visual Studio. REST is great but I am not sure how to publish a database table to REST or how to build a flex REST application. PHP? I cannot use it because it isn't approved on our network.
Lastly, I really don't like that there are 1 million ways to do something should be so simple. I guess I am not a true web developer.

Implements the desired functionality that you would assume would come out of the box (but unfortunately doesn't) when you set a tree component's selectedItem property. The explanations of the problem and solution are a little terse for a Noob like me.
