How anyone can deal wih RTL languages like Arabic to manipulate the text dynamically using actionscript 3 ?
Wow fantastic question its been a very long time since i've heard people talk about this issue. I've developed a few good years a go a solution for LTR languages and flash i haven't maintained it for years i know its still being used and i've made an update for it but never recreated a site for it so the version on the site is still As2 based.
the link to the source code is at:
right now it's configured to work with Hebrew but its just a few small changes to make it work for Arabic at the top of the class. let me know if you need me to update it to as3 for you but it should more or less work on the fly i remember when i changed it last time to work it toke about 10 minutes to update so if you need it just hit me up on twitter and i'll make a new as3 file and upload it to the web.
The sullotion isn't built prof as you noted there ar some very intresting complexities when working with LTR languages as they tend to get mixed with RTL and LTR at the same time. My class has a few methods to help in that what it does is visual fixing of the copy instead of a logical fix(the only ones that can do that are adobe but i dont think there planing on taking on that project for a while they have bigger web wars going on right now) ;)
There are some improvements in flash and its easier for Hebrew where the letters are not connected but please take a peak at this class its built out with a relatively smart engine and with not a lot of methods. its been years since i really opened the files but if there will be a big demand for it I would be more then happy to bring it back to life but i'm thinking 10 commends +10 tweets and that will get me to work a few days and get this baby rolling again.
but even if that doesn't happen just grab the file and feel free to hit me up here with any question or issue (just send a note on twitter as well so i know there was an update to the page.
good luck and please let me know your progress i would love to hear more about it as I would really love to get back to this project again if I the comunity pushes me to do so ;)
